Going back to the well doesn't often yield anything new. I was driving through Death Valley again this month and I wanted to stop at my favorite lava alien and see if I could get something different. I didn't really. The first picture I got of him is still the best. Yet it's been a slow month for new and interesting travel, so I'll post a few anyway.
And the same shot in my ongoing battle of wondering whether B&W is better than color, for some things, especially if the sun is involved.
I also stopped at Badwater Basin, the lowest point in North America, to try and get some perspective shots. Death Valley is amazing, incredibly vast, empty, and beautiful and I love to drive through it every chance that I get, but it's hard to get that across in most photos. So I tried to capture some tourists walking along the salt flats down there.
It's a great spot, but even at the widest angle it's difficult to capture the scope.
Well I tried. And I didn't run across my coyote friend this time, whom I've named the Desert Puppy, so after leaving the park I stopped just outside the town of Shoshone, CA (Pop. 32) and got off a quick shot of something I've driven by a hundred times but never bothered to stop for.
Just a door. In the side of a rock formation. In the middle of nowhere, no explanation given. I'm always charmed by it as I drive by, and a bit perplexed, but I'd rather not know what it's actually there for. Probably not as interesting as my imagination. Anyway that's all I got, but since I'm sad I didn't get to see him this time, here's my favorite Desert Puppy shot!

Saving that until it's official.

Clearly that door is the entrance to a troll's house. And a gateway to the other world he guards.

I was thinking more along the lines of a robber's den. Open sesame!
